Dr Shenda Baker is the CEO and co-founder of Precision Carbon Technologies, LLC. She received Bachelor degrees in Chemistry and French from Grinnell College, a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology and completed Postdoctoral Research at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Her research expertise includes understanding polymer interactions at surfaces and interfaces, using neutron scattering techniques, polymer physical characterization tools, polysaccharide modification and analysis and nanoscale manipulation of diblock-copolymers for biosensors and drug delivery. She has over 35 years of experience in polymer chemistry and materials science and in leading, funding and directing translational research and development. She is an experienced entrepreneur with over 50 publications and co-inventor on over 15 patent families .
Dr Baker was professor of chemistry for 22 years at Harvey Mudd College and recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the Department of Energy's Presidential Early Career Award. She served on the Advisory Board for three different Directorates of the NSF, an active advisor to the DOE and on the NIH Advisory council to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
Dr Baker cofounded Synedgen, Inc, served on its board and as President and CEO. She also served as President and CEO of Synspira LLC, and on its board. Dr. Baker has also played key roles in working with business development members of the team and building the business strategy for investors. While at Synedgen, Dr Baker raised over $25M in private and over $140M in government funding.
