innovative solutions for polymers & Advanced materials
Creative solutions through macromolecular engineering
Although carbon fiber technologies have existed for over 60 years, these important lightweight materials have yet to reach their full potential. Currently, carbon fiber is considered high strength if it exhibits a tensile strength of 3-7 GPa, representing only a fraction of its full potential (i.e., the strength of pure graphite is 100 GPa). Additionally, a tradeoff exists where carbon fibers are either high modulus or high strength. Thus, a fundamental gap exists to achieve a carbon fiber material that is both high modulus and high strength.
At Precision Carbon Technologies, our overarching mission is to develop a new class of carbon fiber materials that are simultaneously high modulus and high strength, thus offering a new alternative in carbon fiber technologies. Using our proprietary precursor methodology, we aim to create simultaneously stiffer and stronger materials for the aerospace & automotive industries.
Macromolecular engineering involves the rational design and precise synthesis of tailor-made macromolecules, controlling their structure, topology, composition, and functionality to achieve desired macroscopic properties and applications. With over 60 years of combined polymer expertise, Precision Carbon Technologies can help you develop custom polymers and advanced materials that align with your company's goals. We offer consultation & design, as well as synthesis and characterization of your target polymers for pilot studies.
